Kandahar Ski World Cup: The top event in January 2024 in St. Anton am Arlberg<\/h2>\n

It’s that time of year again in mid-January – the Ski World Cup<\/strong> stops off at the Arlberg. On Saturday (January 11), the legendary Kandahar race<\/strong> takes place with the women’s downhill<\/strong>. On Sunday (12 January), the Super-G<\/strong> is on the program. <\/p>\n

Ski World Cup makes a guest appearance on the Arlberg<\/h3>\n

The historic Kandahar races in St. Anton am Arlberg are a highlight right at the start of the year. The legendary descent<\/strong> starts at over 2,000 meters, with almost 700 vertical meters and over 2 kilometers of winding course to the Karl Schranz finish stadium in the middle of St. Anton. The maximum gradient of the slope is 78% and promises a spectacular race<\/strong>. The conditions are good, as confirmed by the FIS at the snow inspection on New Year’s Day. The fans and racers can therefore look forward to the January 11 and 12, 2025 <\/strong> can look forward to exciting matches in the downhill and super-G<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Arlberg Kandahar races – tradition meets modernity<\/h3>\n

The Arlberg is rightly regarded as the cradle of alpine skiing. The first traces of tourism can be found here as early as the 19th century, and the Arlberg Ski Club<\/strong> was founded in 1901<\/strong>. 20 years later, Austria’s first ski school was opened in St. Anton am Arlberg. In the same decade, in 1927<\/strong>, the first Kandahar race took place in St. Anton<\/strong>. Incidentally, the name Kandahar goes back to a British officer, the “Earl of Kandahar”. And even today, the competitions on the legendary Karl Schranz course are still referred to as the Arlberg Kandahar Race. With the Junior World Championships<\/strong>, another top event<\/strong> joins the successful history of skiing on the Arlberg<\/strong>. The tradition of ski racing literally meets the future in January in St. Anton am Arlberg. <\/p>\n
